William Johnson is the main protagonist in The Spook's Seventh Apprentice.

Biography[]

Will Johnson was the seventh apprentice of John Gregory, the local spook of Chipenden. He struggled at being a spook’s apprentice, and had trouble casting chains and keeping a diary. When John Gregory travelled to Burnley to deal with a boggart, Will stayed back at his house in Chipenden, to practise his diary skills and chain casting. During this time, Will met a boy called Peter Snout, the son of the County's pig butcher, Mr. Snout. Peter told Will the story of how him and his father traveled to Sanderson's Farm, where they spent the night in the barn, later that night, Mr. Snout was attacked by a witch and knocked unconscious while he slept. His son was so scared and didn’t help him, but instead traveled to Chipenden to get the help of John Gregory, but Will explained to him that he was away on business in Burnley.

As they traveled to Burnley, to get the help of John Gregory, they passed through Blackburn, the village next to Sanderson's Farm. Peter, scared for his father, recklessly ran down to the farm to see him. Will followed after him, and as he entered the barn, fell under the illusions of the pig witch. The witch was able to turn Peter into a pig, but being a seventh son of a seventh son, he was able detect the witch's illusions and break them. The witch still managed to transform Will into a pig, so Will and Peter stayed in that form for several days, until the pig witch returned. She used a spider like creature to rip three nearby pigs to shreds, and promised she would return for Will and Peter that night. Will broke the both of their illusions and they escaped the farm, just before seeing Mr. Snout's corpse. As they were escaping, the pig witch attacked them, but John Gregory arrived in time and killed it.
