The Horshaw Ripper was a cattle ripper in The Spook's Curse.

Description[]

This boggart was bound in the village of Horshaw where it had been terrorizing the village, and in the process, the local priest had tried to take care of it, but had been caught and was lying helpless on the church floor while the ripper stuck through a crack in the floor, and sucked his blood.

Thomas Ward was sent out to take care of the boggart by John Gregory. A local rigger and his mate dug a six-foot deep pit to trap the boggart and Tom made a special glue that was made from bones. A stone mason had been hired to make the stone slab to put over the pit. A doctor had been sent for and when the doctor came, he cut off the leg of the priest and took some of his blood and put it in a bowl. Tom came back to the hole to find it dug and glued, the inside of it and the bottom.

Then Tom went to the church and took the bowl of blood, putting it with his bait dish in the 6 feet deep hole. After the ripper had sucked out the last amount of blood left in the priests leg, he followed the scent towards the pit. Tom, and the men helping him, slowly lowered the stone slab down and trapped the ripper in the hole. The binding was sucessful and the stone mason had carved the Greek letter beta with a right-facing diagonal line through it, telling people that a boggart had been artifically bound there. The rank of the boggart was one, the most dangerous rating for boggarts, and "Ward" for the spook who bound it.
